Tommy Dreamer and Francine came out to the ring, and said there was not going to be a Heat Wave party without them. Tommy said he watched the most recent WWF and WCW PPVs and with all respect to the wrestlers there, ECW had set the PPV standard to match. He then announced that ECW can now be seen nationwide on Friday nights at 8 o'clock on The Nashville Network in both the United States and Canada. He thanked the fans for their support in helping ECW achieve their goals so far, and their next goal was to be the number one wrestling promotion in the world. He then got choked up as he said he had another announcement. The fans started chanting "We love Tommy", and as Dreamer was about to speak, Steve Corino, Jack Victory, and Rhino came out on the runway.
Corino had a microphone, and called Dreamer a "has been" and a "casualty of hardcore wrestling". He said that Dreamer's two herniated discs were not getting better, and he needed back surgery. Corino said his Dreamer's career was over. He remarked that he used to respect Dreamer, but the fans had turned him into the "cancer" of the locker room. He said the "W" in ECW was still for wrestling. He asked Dreamer if it was worth it, and he nodded yes. Corino screamed at Dreamer for his response. He said that since Dreamer would never wrestle on TNN, he should lie down for Corino and let him score a pin, and elevate his career. Dreamer said he would never lay down for him, and Corino attacked him as he left the ring. He berated him as he stomped and kicked him, but Dreamer absorbed it. He floored Corino with a lariat, and pounded him into the corner. Francine then gave him a bronco buster, using Jim Molineaux as a springboard. Corino went at her, was met by a Dreamer punch, and DDT's by Francine, who pined him.
Tajiri came to the ring and laid out Dreamer and Francine with kicks, and put Dreamer in the Tarantula. Taz came to the ring, and Dreamer held Tajiri's legs, so Taz could stomp him. The World Title match was on!
